Our furnace stopped working in mid April when we had a week of colder than normal weather. Since it was mid April and we have a wood burning fire place, I managed to convince the wife that we did not need to call a furnace repair company. Since I had no experience with furnace repair, it took me about 4 hours of research and probing with a voltmeter before discovering the rollout switch was tripped. I pushed the reset button on the old rollout switch and the furnace fired right up. Within about 15 minutes, the old switch tripped again. The switch is supposed to trip at about 300 degrees and I do not believe the temperature was nearly that hot, so I ordered the new switch. The new switch arrived in about 3 days and I replaced it in about 15 minutes. Once again, the furnace fired right up and seems to be working properly. I don't know what it would have cost through a HVAC repair company, but since I only paid 31.00 for the new switch, I believe I probably saved several hundred dollars.
