Product Description
Peg construction traditionally involves the difficult task of driving a pin dowel into a hole that is just as tight at the top as it is at the bottom. Not only do you have to use a hammer from the very beginning, but it only gets tougher as you get deeper. The Miller dowel is inserted 75 by hand because of the relationship of the dowel shape to its pilot hole. You get better holding strength, and its easier to tap in. Another advantage of inserting the dowel through the top board is simply that there is less chance for the pilot hole to be misaligned. Mini X dowels are 1-5/8" long and 1/4" at their largest diameter, ideal for joining 1/2" stock.Mini X Stepped Dowels, Walnut (100) Review
I use all sizes of the Miller Stepped Dowels. The minis are great for smaller projects. I've used walnut, oak, birch, and cherry dowels and have been very pleased with the results. You have to use the Miller drill bit (don't drop it or it will shatter)for a proper fit. The dowels, with a little wood glue, produce a nice tight fit. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Mini X Stepped Dowels, Walnut (100)" are high quality item.
