5256 Aluminum Sheet 4x10x.032" Peggable (1) Review

This .032" thick 'mild' aluminum sheet was exactly what I needed to do a recent computer case modification.

I had purchased a Lian Li #PC-A55B computer case for my first-ever 'computer build' and I needed to block out all the factory-punched rear panel perforations that are part of the all-aluminum computer case's design. After unsuccessfully looking locally for a source of light-gauge, 5250-category of mild aluminum, like that used for the case's construction, I turned to amazon.com for a 'source'. This is very close to the same thickness and temper of the mild aluminum used for the case's beautifully-fabricated, all-aluminum construction. And with the purchase of an Arrow riveting tool kit on amazon.com, and a couple packages of all-aluminum 1/8" diameter rivets from an eBay seller, I was ready to do some metal-working.

To cut the aluminum sheet I used an Adel hand 'nibbler' tool that I've had for many years. These days, this type of tool can be found online (I had found mine on eBay some years ago for about $25 and they are still to be found today). The nibbler allowed me to easily cut the sheet to the dimensions I needed without the bending or tearing that would result from using metal shears, and with some careful cleaning-up the edges of the material with a flat 'mill' file, and using a Kepro hand-punch tool with a 1/8" diameter punch to make clean holes for the rivets, I riveted the sheet to the locations on the computer case's chassis in my carefully located and drilled 1/8" holes. I would note that I first wiped away the very thin coating of light-weight machine oil that the aluminum sheet came protected with under the clear-plastic packaging(this film of light machine oil on aluminum is typical of sheet aluminum as it comes from the mill to protect the raw sheets from oxidation). After an afternoon doing my 'project' I ended up with results that look like it was factory-made!

I want to note that amazon's format for this review has this .032" aluminum sheet material classified as a "toy". For young children, it is certainly NOT a "toy", but for adults with some skills and the proper tools and experience(like me), with a particular 'project' in mind, it is a wonderful "toy", with a nice feeling of accomplishment resulting from a few hours of creative "play"!

For my need and purpose, this conveniently-sized and very affordable, hard-to-find product, was precisely what I needed and is an easy 5-Star rated product!!!!!
